Now that December has appeared and the advent calendars have begun, it’s time to start really thinking about Christmas! It might be hard to shop for someone who’s constantly on the move or looking for their next destination but I’ve been doing some digging and found a thing or two that just might do the trick! I’ve found a wide range of things from cheap to expensive, from occasional puddle-jumper to seasoned backpacker – I think you’ll find something to fit the travel type and your price range. From one traveller to another, here’s what I think your travel buddy, partner, etc just might enjoy this holiday season! I know I’d enjoy everything on this list…
|Sand-Free Beach Bag – $40
Tired of coming home from the beach to empty not just your clothes but a beach’s worth of sand into your home? With this bag’s one way sift technology, the stand will stay at the beach!
|Portable Washing Machine – $74
The new-age washboard that’s perfect for campers, backpackers, or those emergencies when you need your clothes washed in a jiffy! Get a machine quality wash for your clothes in less than five minutes in six simple steps. Mind you the load is limited to two days of summer clothes, but it sure beats paying $7+ for a load of laundry in a hostel!
|Quick-Dry Towel – $15-$30
With washing comes drying and this is one of the best towels I’ve seen yet! Light weight and made of microfiber so it dries quicker than cotton. It takes up very little room in your luggage and comes in a variety of sizes for any and all uses!
|Hidden Pocket Scarf – $75
Perfect for any traveller, this scarf has a hidden pocket so you can keep your valuables closer than ever. Have a habit of putting things down and walking away? Have no fear! Just stick your passport, cash, credit cards, etc in and zip it up! Another perk? You can have it custom ordered and select what print you want from a variety of choices!
|Trackable Luggage Tag – $170
Ever worry about losing your luggage with connecting flights? Worry no more! The iTraq luggage tag tracks your suitcase worldwide using cell towers so you can see where it has been and where it is going. Define a virtual ‘fence’ so that as soon as your valuables leave that area you receive a phone notification! Don’t worry, you can recharge it whenever for multiple uses!
|The Techy Stuff|
|Selfie Stick – $10
Many will groan at this, but if you’ve read my previous article about why you should stop hating Selfie sticks then you’ll be more apt to put this on the Christmas list. Get those epic shots you want while travelling solo and stop being disappointed by the photos you ask random strangers to take! Plus for only $10 on Groupon… let’s face it. You’ve spent more on worse things.
|Power Bank & Solar Charger – $25
This isn’t just for travelling but for everyday use! For all those times when there’s no plug available, you can use our beloved sun for all your USB-based charging needs! It’s especially perfect for camping so you never have to worry about losing the music or not being able to take photos with your phone.
|Waterproof Phone Case – $65
I can’t tell you how many times my case has saved my phone. It’s been dropped in snowbanks, puddles, sinks, bounced off of rocks… if you haven’t guessed, I’m a total klutz. If you or whoever you’re buying for is too, then look no further for the perfect gift! There are also other versions from Otterbox and Lifeproof (which is what I use currently), but why not support a Canadian company?
|Instant Camera – $100
For those travellers that love kicking it old school, especially when it comes to memories. Fujifilm has come out with a great rendition of the traditional Polaroid camera, and it comes in a variety of fun colours! Hunt around a little and you might even be able to find it for a cheaper price like at WalMart right now for $90! Plus it’s awesome for little projects to remember your travels like this tile wallpaper which I’m totally doing in my new apartment.
|GoPro/SJCam – $95-$670
If your traveller is a bit of a thrill seeker, then a camera like this will be perfect for capturing those moments when they’re knee deep in whatever their adventure takes them. GoPro is the biggest name in adventure filming & photography apparatuses, but SJCam is a close second with more affordable options. While the GoPro gives you more options for low-light & high definition filming, SJCam allows you to transfer photos and video immediately to your phone/laptop via WiFi (it also comes in a variety of fun colours).
|While You’re Grounded|
|Guide Books – $14-$40
While we’re between flights, the best way to quench that travel bug thirst is to plan for the future! If you know your gift-receiver is looking at a specific destination for their next adventure, why not help them plan with a guide book? Out of the many choices, Lonely Planet is the best in my opinion – I never go anywhere in Canada without their guide book!
|Scratch Map – $36
A perfect addition to your house/apartment! Keep track of your travels by scratching off where you’ve been. Available in both black and white to best fit your home decor! I can’t wait to have mine hanging in my new apartment!
|Worst Case Scenario: Travel Edition – $55
Playing this just might make you glad you’re not on an adventure! This card game gives you the worst case scenarios any traveller could face, so put on your thinking cap and see if you can manage to make it out unscathed!
|Because Why Not?|
|Carry-on Cocktail Kit – $32
I just had to include this one because it’s hilarious! Travel in style with one of four in-flight cocktail creators. Sometimes you just have to treat yoself.
