With our plans falling through at the last minute for the Victoria Day weekend (leave it to the septic to mess things up), it meant some quick lunch time planning and a silver lining as I found a fantastic deal ($60 off!!) and booked a room at the Georgian Bay Hotel & Conference Centre. After a quick stop at home to pack, Robin and I were on the road by 5pm on Friday!
Georgian Bay Hotel & Conference Centre is located along the Ontario 26 between Collingwood and Blue Mountain right near the coast of Georgian Bay. This beautiful hotel boasts beautiful rooms along with a tennis court, 18 hole family mini golf course, a children’s playground as well as both indoor and outdoor pools. Unfortunately the outdoor pools weren’t quite ready for our stay but I’m sure they’ll be open within the next week or so as our weather continues to get warmer! As soon as you walk into their beautiful foyer, you know you’re in for a wonderful stay.
While waiting to check-in, their restaurant Gustav Chophousewas lively with a fantastic live band and $1 Oyster Shucking – every Friday! Unfortunately I just missed the oyster shucking as it ends at 7pm, but next time I’m in the area I’ll be stopping by! We didn’t eat at Gustav this time around, but I’ve only heard good things about it. After receiving our key cards and asking for a late check-out (I don’t move very fast in the mornings), we made our way to our room on the second floor of their southern wing. Our room was at the end of the hall and overlooked their adorable little courtyard and children’s playground.
The room itself was beautiful and I was pleasantly surprised to find a safe, microwave and fridge (with tiny freezer!) within one of the cabinets. Although I was most excited to find a Keurig machine, which the Georgian Bay Hotel has in every hotel room along with a medley of four coffee pods for their guests. If you’re a tea granny like me though, never fear! You can head to reception and they will happily exchange them for whatever flavour you like – I opted for my standard Earl Grey.
After some exploring in downtown Collingwood and dinner on Hurontario Street, we took the opportunity to relax inside the hotel room and enjoy our impromptu visit. The mattress of our luxurious king size bed was wonderfully soft as we sunk right in and snuggled up into the sheets. My only real complaint was that they were having issues with the WiFi – which was a little annoying for me as I was roaming, but the speed was fantastic for browsing and sending files once I was able to connect on my laptop. Later, I discovered a thermostat in the bathroom which I thought controlled the temperature of the heater, but I was ecstatic to find it was for the bathroom’s heated floor! Not as big of a luxury in the spring/summer but I was dreaming of warm feet after a day of skiing in the winter. What a fantastic amenity to have!
The Georgian Bay Hotel also boasts a beautiful spa where you can indulge in a variety of manicures, pedicures, and massages. Unfortunately this wasn’t in the cards for me this visit, however they do have both a hot tub and a sauna for guest use. Both are open from 9am – 11pm every day, but I’ve noticed in hotels that the hot tubs, saunas, etc are awfully busy at night. I don’t know about you, but if you’re anything like me and enjoy a quiet soak in the hot tub, so my tip is to head for it in the morning. I went in around 10am and had it all to myself for quite some time! Another reason why late check-out comes in handy since sharing can be overrated!
One last thing to mention is the amazing level of service the staff at the Georgian Bay Hotel offers. Not once did I have an unpleasant experience with any of the staff, and they were always extremely helpful with any request I had. Even walking down the halls I was greeted with smiles and genuine happiness. They often went above and beyond which made me feel so welcome, even though I was only there for a short amount of time.
Overall, my stay here was just what Robin and I needed for a short getaway close to home. I’d highly suggest this hotel for anyone who’s looking to spoil themselves a little while getting away. It’s a fantastic location for any time of the year!
