What We Learned From WITS16

So you’ve heard my heartfelt experience at WITS16 (if you haven’t, go take a look), and maybe that wasn’t enough to convince you to head to Milwaukee in 2017. Maybe it wasn’t enough to convince you to take a chance or to find ways to make that chance happen like I did, so maybe the testimonies of these amazing women I had the pleasure of meeting in Irvine, California will! A huge thank you to all of these amazing women for making WITS16 an unforgettable one!

One Thing You Learned
2015 started with amazing travel, where I spent one month exploring Morocco, Spain and the Canary Islands. A few days later I headed to Boston, MA in March for my first Women In Travel Summit. Imagine being surrounded by 300 adventurous, curious, creative and passionate like-minded women. It was empowering and I left feeling inspired and motivated. When I returned home I went to work on my vision, resulting in the launch of Adjust Your Focus® in May 2015. WITS15 gave me the confidence I needed and allowed me to connect with so many incredible women. I attended my second WITS16 in Irvine, CA as one of the event photographers. Like with WITS15, the conference was again inspiring and full of engaging sessions. The weekend was filled with excitement, positive energy and wonderful women.

Advice You’d Give a Gal Thinking of Coming to WITS17
You can learn a tremendous amount just by listening and talking with others. Sessions should be captivating, informative, and beneficial (at WITS they sure were). It is a wonderful opportunity to meet speakers face to face. These type of settings spark new ideas, motive you, boost your confidence and offer clarity. I would highly recommend attending WITS17 in Milwaukee, WI. Come with an open mind and plenty of business cards.

One Thing You Learned
Quality, not quantity. Going to a conference with 400+ attendees can seem like a daunting task–so many people to talk to! But instead of trying to reach as many people as I could, I focused on cultivating the connections I made early on. I returned to sponsor booths and I stopped to chat with fellow WITS-goers I’d met earlier in the weekend. I found that by remembering people and making more personal conversation (that went beyond, “So what do you do?”), that I, in turn, became memorable.

GO! I waited until the last minute to buy a ticket this year, and after the first session I was scratching my head wondering why I’d put it off of so long. This was my second WITS, and both years have been 100% worth the investment. Start budgeting for the trip to Milwaukee now so that when tickets go on sale it’ll be a no-brainer.

One Thing You Learned
Being organized and having a plan is key to a successful blog. If you want it to grow, you have to treat it like a business.

Advice You’d Give a Gal Thinking of Coming to WITS17
Don’t be shy! WITS is a great place to meet other people that have the same passion for travel, so starting up a conversation with a stranger will be a lot easier than you think. And these women will become your friends and support you in the years to come. Take advantage!

One Thing You Learned
This year I learned the number one most important thing for having a successful blog: CONSISTENCY!

Advice You’d Give a Gal Thinking of Coming to WITS17
Meet as many people as you can! You never know what opportunities reveal themselves or new amazing friends that you make.

One Thing I Learned
Be yourself. Don’t let others sway your opinions, but be accepting of other points of view. If someone’s done it, taken photos of it, written about it – doesn’t matter. DO IT, and make it your own! Make people see the world through your eyes and show ’em what makes you unique!

Advice I’d Give a Gal Thinking of Coming to WITS17
TAKE A CHANCE. Step outside your comfort zone and talk to someone, go to a workshop that you know nothing about, jump in with both feet and LEARN! Also, find me and I’ll be your friend. I love new friends!
