Hotels with Cats That Will Tickle Every Feline Lover's Fancy :: I've Been Bit! A Travel Blog
If you're a cat lover who misses their furry feline while on the go, these hotels with cats will be sure to give you the kitty snuggles you need to survive! Pet-friendly accommodation around the world. Hotels for cat lovers who travel. Hotels for animal lovers who explore. | #Travel #Accommodation #PetFriendly #CatLover #HotelsWithCats | IveBeenBit.ca

No, I’m not talking about luxurious boarding for our four-legged and furry friends. I’m talking about cat hotels for humans! There seems to be a wave of canine ambassadors appearing across the globe and upon seeing this post on Facebook it got me thinking… why not cats too?! Dogs are cute and all but I’m sorry, I’m all about the felines! Plus any cat lover knows that when we’re on the go, we miss our feline friends the most. It’s hard to be away from them for an extended period of time, though these hotels with cats around the world will surely make the time away bearable.

I dove into the bellies of the internet to search (oh Instagram, your #hotelcat hashtag was so good to me!) and found this epic roundup. All of these hotels embrace their little mouser and I promise they’ll make your heart melt. If you’re a cat lover who’s looking for some kitty love, these human hotels will have cat fans feline fine in no time!

Disclaimer: I have not been to any of these hotels myself personally. I just embraced my inner crazy cat lady and scoured the internet to find properties which have adorable felines that I’ve found via other websites and social media. This is meant to be a round-up of hotels that cat lovers might be interested as they travel!

North America Cat Hotels

Red Shutter Inn in Canada

Location: 4430 Red Mountain Rd, Rossland, BC V0G 1Y0, Canada

Upon researching this article I noticed that the majority of North America’s cat hotels were in the United States. I thought there just had to be a hotel in Canada that had a feline companion. Actually if anything, I was in denial at the idea of there not being a Canadian hotel with a cat ambassador. After scouring the internet for what seemed like forever, I finally came upon the Red Shutter Inn on Canada’s west coast. A cozy inn located in the Red Mountain ski resort, it’s not uncommon to find the aptly named Big Red snuggled up in a blanket like a true snow bunny… er, cat. Phew, crisis averted.

Decanter Hotel in Puerto Rico

Location: 106 Calle San José, San Juan, 00901, Puerto Rico

This restored 19th-century colonial-style building is the Decanter Hotel, located in Old San Juan. Built in the late 1800s, it’s close to attractions like the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista along with a number of amazing restaurants and more. While he doesn’t make much of an appearance on their social media, Malbec seems to have made himself at home according to this guest’s testimony! Also… Decanter… Malbec… my heart is swooning!

Besides breathtaking views that are perfect for a long walk on the beach, Cap Maison has an adorable four-legged mascot named Davidson that will steal your heart. You can usually find him by the Naked Fisherman, welcoming guests and hoping for a belly rub or a tasty morsel. Check him out on Instagram here!

1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa in the United States

Location: 75 Prospect Ave, Eureka Springs, AR 72632, USA

A historic icon that towers over Eureka Springs in Arkansas, the 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa has so much to offer year round. Although many visit because it’s said to be haunted… you can check out a ghost tour and learn about the ghosties that are said to have never left. If you get spooked, don’t worry – resident cats Casper and Jack will be there to comfort you!

The Algonquin Hotel in the United States

Location: 59 West 44th Street, New York, NY 10036, USA

For almost 100 years, The Algonquin Hotel in New York City has had an in-house cat. Hamlet the VIII, the current mascot, came from a feral colony in Long Island. Currently living in the hotel, greeting guests day after day, it truly is a rags to riches story.

As you probably guessed, there were 7 Hamlets before him but before Hamlet the VIII there were 3 Matildas. The latest Matilda passed in late 2017, though when she was the queen of the Algonquin Hotel you could book a “Friends of Matilda” package. It included a letter from Matilda (that’s one talented cat!), a Matilda plush doll and a feline healthy and beauty tips book. Back to Hamlet though as he’s seriously one popular cat. He’s got more followers than I do!

The Historic Brookstown Inn in the United States

Location: 200 Brookstown Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27101, USA

Not all hotel cats travel across the country to find their fur-ever home, but that’s what happened at The Historic Brookstown Inn!  Accidentally locked in the back of a tractor-trailer truck, Sally travelled all the way from Seattle, Washington. Starving, she wandered into the Historic Brookstown Inn back in September 2013 and never left! Now she’s not just an icon of the hotel but also in the city of Winston-Salem. Be warned though, she’s known to be a seat stealer and the occasional wedding crasher!

Hotel Luna Mystica in the United States

Location: 25 ABC Mesa Road, El Prado, NM 87529, USA

If you’re looking for Instagram gold, you’ve got that and more at the Hotel Luna Mystica in New Mexico. That’s not the main reason you should say though as this ‘campground’ of sorts has vintage trailers for you to call home. Old school meets new age and they’re all hella gorgeous – I want their interior designer to come decorate my apartment. For realz. Enjoy the peace and quiet of New Mexico as you enjoy a cold beer at the Taos Mesa Brewery next door by day, the Milky Way at night and pet their feline companion Armando at any time in between.

The Red Lion Inn in the United States

Location: 30 Main St, Stockbridge, MA 01262, USA

Oh how I wish I knew about the Red Lion Inn while I was in Massachusetts! Located in the heart of the Berkshires, this adorable in dates back to 1700s. You know you’re in for a real treat when you staying at a certified Historic Hotel of America. Be sure to say hello to their feline ambassador Norman, who you can usually find soaking up the sun in the side parlour. He even has his own Instagram account!

Sylvia Beach Hotel in the United States

Location: 267 NW Cliff St, Newport, OR 97365, USA

Named in honour of the American who established the Shakespeare and Company bookstore in Paris, the Sylvia Beach Hotel in Newport, Oregon is a literary lovers dream! It was built originally in 1912 and underwent renovations in the 1980s to become the book enthusiast’s paradise it is today. What goes great with books besides a cup of coffee or tea? A charming cat of course! Be sure to say hello to Shelly during your visit.

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in the United States

Location: 239 Turpentine Creek Ln, Eureka Springs, AR 72632, USA

Okay so Turpentine Creek doesn’t exactly have one single mascot but rather is a sanctuary for big cats. It’s seriously an incredible place as they give abandoned and abused cougars, leopards, lions and tigers a new life and home. With a number of accommodation options from suites to RV/tent spots year round, it’s another amazing option for a getaway in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Though if you visit in the warmer months, you can stay in a tree house! As if you needed another reason to stay there, all proceeds go to support these amazing big cats. How paw-sitively awesome is that?! Count me in!

Honourary Mention: Stray Cat Hostel in Costa Rica

Location: 905 CALLE 20, San José, Costa Rica

While this isn’t exactly a hotel and they don’t officially have a cat ambassador, I loved the Stray Cats Hostel‘s vibe and couldn’t resist including it! Originally born in the city of cats, Turkey’s Istanbul, in 2010, the hostel now calls San José, Costa Rica home. It’s a place where cats of all kinds can gather, both two-legged and four-legged. There are plenty of cat-themed art pieces that adorn the walls, though! Here are a few other cat-themed places you might enjoy too!

Hotel MOHR Life Resort in Austria

Location:  Innsbrucker Str. 40, 6631 Lermoos, Austria

Wash any stress you may have away at the Hotel Mohr Life Resort in Lermoos, Austria. What blew me away was their newest addition, the Mohr Escape. With an incredible infinity pool, sauna and breathtaking views of the Zugspitze, it’s seriously a work of art. Oh and also adults-only… a big perk in my books! The biggest perk though has to be Moses, the resident cat. As you can see, he’s already setting the perfect example for total relaxation!

The Beach House in England

Location: Park Ln, Milford on Sea, Lymington SO41 0PT, UK

Let’s head to the beautiful British countryside to The Beach House in Milford on Sea, United Kingdom. Formerly known as Westover Hall back in the late 1800s, it was renamed to The Beach House in 2012 to reflect exactly how the original owners, the Siemens family, had used it back in the day. Offering breathtaking views of The Needles and the Isle of Wight, here you’ll find Lancelot. When he’s not snoozing away, you may find him practising his yoga. He’s definitely more flexible than I am!

Surrounded by 65 acres of land in the village of Mistel Lovell, you’ll find the Old Swan & Minster Mill. Enjoy quintessential British activities like croquet and tennis and snuggle up by the fire in the evenings. Combined with the rural charm of the Inn, it sounds like an idyllic getaway to me! Old Thorns Hotel in England

If you’re looking for a home away from home in England, the Old Thorns Hotel is the perfect spot in Liphook. Said to be one of the greatest resort destinations in southern England, settle into one of their 150 bedrooms and enjoy the 18-hole golf course, health club, spa, or grab a bite at one of the 6 restaurants/bars on site! Their resident cat Rufus will be happy to welcome you to the Old Thorns Hotel. Around Christmas time if you pop in to say hello, you can strike a pose on the Old Thorns Christmas Throne for the chance to win a free night! The only catch, you have to beat Rufus’ cuteness which could be tough to do!

St George’s Country House Hotel in England

Welcoming guests for over 80 years, the St George’s Country House Hotel in Perranporth was originally a mine captain’s home. Castille Paris in France

Location: 33-37 Rue Cambon, 75001 Paris, France

Prestigiously located in Rue Cambon near Paris’ most exclusive fashion boutiques and iconic sights like the Louvre and Champs Elysées, Castille Paris is absolute five-star luxury. Italian style meets Parisian haute couture in this iconically artistic city. Am I the only one who originally read this as Cat-sille and not Castille? Well it would make sense as they have a resident cat Heliot that calls the Castille Paris home. Fun fact: we’re both December babies!

Eiffel Seine Hotel in France

Location: 3 Boulevard de Grenelle, 75015 Paris, France

3 minutes from the iconic Eiffel Tour AND a cat resident?! Oh Eiffel Seine Hotel, we couldn’t ask for anything better! Uniquely decorated in the true art nouveau style iconic to the 1920s, you’ll sleep soundly in the city of love. With amenities like a continental breakfast, fitness room, free wifi and an honesty bar where you can serve yourself (UMM, AMAZING), I don’t think it’s possible to have a terrible stay here! The icing on the cake? The Eiffel Seine Hotel’s adorable resident hotel cat. Bulette.

Le Bristol Paris in France

Location: 112 rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré, 8th arr., 75008 Paris, France

If you’re looking for luxury with a side of extravagance, Le Bristol Paris is that with an extra helping of grandeur. Seriously if you were to look up ‘luxury cat hotel’ in the dictionary, this would be the definition. You won’t be surprised to find that Socrate, the hotel’s “permanent guest” is just as gorgeous as the hotel he lives in. He is preceded by the original resident, Fa-Raon who has since retired from his hotel duties and now permanently lives with one of the hotel’s receptionists, Jean-Philippe.

Brenners Park Hotel & Spa in Germany

Location: Schillerstraße 4/6, 76530 Baden-Baden, Germany

Principle hotel of the Oetker Collection (the same elegant group as Le Bristol Paris), Brenners Park Hotel & Spa is one of Germany’s prestigious venues. Nestled in the brilliant natural setting of the Black Forest, the establishment’s beauty transcends all others. As I mentioned earlier, resident feline Kléopatre is Fa-Raon’s counterpart. Just as majestic as her partner in Paris where she grew up, Kléo now loves the fresh country air of the hinterland.

Richmond Arms Hotel in Scotland

Location: The Square, Tomintoul, Ballindalloch AB37 9ET, UK

I’m sure it’s not just me, but the Richmond Arms Hotel in Tomintoul seriously looks like a castle. The city is said to be the highest village in the Highlands and dates back to 1776. If you’re a whiskey lover, there are 25 distilleries within 20 miles of the hotel – not to mention 150 single malt whiskies are stocked in the two hotel bars. Enjoy true Scottish hospitality (at an amazing price I might add) and Sly, their adorable feline resident, will surely welcome you!

Hotel Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Switzerland

Location: Prom. Jean-Jacques Rousseau 1, 2520 La Neuveville, Switzerland

Waterfront in the wine region of Switzerland… does that sound enticing? It does to me! The Hotel Jean-Jacques Rousseau sits on the shores of Lake Biel and likes to focus on the little things in life. With a number of packages for families, romantic getaways and more, you’ll surely have a memorable stay in one of their 24 rooms. Their cat concierge, aptly named Rousseau, seems to be the gatekeeper… you may need to bring some treats in order to get a reservation!

Location: Oban, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, UK

Okay so he doesn’t belong to a hotel specifically but how many cities can say they have a cat ambassador?! That’s the case with Parsley who calls Oban in Argyll and Bute home. Not only does the town love him, but tourists from all over the world come to visit. He’s a cat we can definitely relate to as Parsley has a serious case of wanderlust. So much that his owner had to put a GPS tracker on him! Though if you want to ensure a visit with this famous Scottish cat, you can book an appointment with him at his favourite local pub, The Balmoral Hotel.

Location: 2 Lighthouse Rd, Umhlanga Rocks, Umhlanga, 4320, South Africa

Right on the waterfront offering stunning ocean views, it’s no wonder that The Oyster Box Hotel has become a cherished hotel in South Africa. What could make this five-star establishment even better? Their cat ambassador Skabenga, of course! With his name meaning hooligan in Zulu, Skabenga has been around longer than anyone can remember. Wandering in off the street as a stray, he was fed tasty treats and never left. I totally get it, I wouldn’t want to leave if I got five-star luxury nibbles for just hanging out! Call This a Cat Hotel Bucket List

While I’ve only had the pleasure of staying at a small number of establishments with a furry friend to greet me upon check-in (normally dogs… meh), researching this list blew me away. Who knew there were so many accommodations that had a cat calling it home?!. Though I have to say, I’m disappointed I couldn’t find more hotels in Canada that had a feline ambassador. C’mon Canada! Get it together! Ahem, anyways. To stay at each of these places would be a dream. Chances are this dream won’t become a reality but I’ll definitely be keeping them on my radar for future adventures!

Would a hotel having a cat ambassador sway you to stay there? If you hadn’t guessed by this post, it sure would for me! Have you ever stayed at a hotel that had a live-in kitty? If you answered yes to this question – first I’m totally jealous and second, if it’s not on this list, please let me know so I can add the property for all cat lovers to see!
