Travel with Friends Quotes To Inspire Adventure & Camaraderie

Travel with Friends Quotes About Adventure & Camaraderie :: I've Been Bit! Travel Blog

Travel is a huge inspiration for many – myself included. Some of my favourite travel memories are from hitting the open road and tackling hiking trails with my closest buds. On top of that, I wouldn’t have met most of my closest friends if it weren’t for travel! This fact inspired me to gather these travel with friends quotes. From road trips to long-distance friendship and everything in between, you’ll love these inspirational travel quotes!

Travelling & Friendship Quotes

While I absolutely love solo travel and I think that everyone should do it at least once in their lives, travelling with friends is amazing. Adventuring with friends takes your relationship to a whole new level. Travel can break a friendship but if it doesn’t, it creates a bond that is everlasting.

As soon as I saw you, I knew a grand adventure was about to happen.
– A.A. Milne, Winnie The Pooh

Sometimes those people walk into your life where you just know life is going to get even more interesting. I’m lucky to have a number of amazing friends who make my grand adventure that much more fulfilling.

As with any journey, whom you travel with is more important than the destination.
– Unknown

Oh how true this is! It could be a trip to a town over or an epic cross-country adventure but having an amazing travel buddy will make any trip a memorable one.

Everyone needs this friend that calls and says, “Get dressed, we’re going on an adventure.”
– Terry Allison

I don’t know about you but that sentence alone is music to my ears! If any of my friends want to know how to make my day, this is the perfect start. I’m sure plenty of my friends could say the same thing!

Friends are as companions on a journey, who ought to aid each other to persevere in the road to a happier life.
– Pythagoras

Yes, yes and yes! There’s a certain level of happiness that comes from being able to create and share memories with close friends. Planning adventures and experiencing new destinations with friends really makes this journey called life all the more fulfilling.

Traveling in the company of those we love is home in motion.
― Leigh Hunt

I love this because it speaks to that sense of security of travelling with a friend or loved one. Having a companion can really help you step outside your comfort zone. While I’ve grown so much from solo travel, I know that having someone to support me through new experiences makes them that little bit easier to accomplish!

The real test of friendship is can you literally do nothing with the other person? Can you enjoy those moments of life that are utterly simple?
– Eugene Kennedy

Exploring and being on the road is great but sometimes you just need some downtime. It’s the friends who can give you that little bit of calm, the ones that can respect that you need some quiet time, that I truly cherish. Sometimes you just want to sit and enjoy the view without saying a word. When you’ve got a friend that’ll happily do that with you, it makes the moment that much more special!

Life by the water is always better, especially with a few good friends in tow.
– Unknown

I think everyone can agree with this quote! Oh what I’d give for more trips to a cottage, enjoying a campfire by the water, taking a hiking break on a hot summer day with a dip in the lake… okay, you get it. I’ll stop now.

Friends who Road Trip Quotes

One of the quintessential travel with friends experiences is hitting the open road. Whether it’s a day trip for a little fresh air, a weekend getaway or a longer adventures, plenty of memories will be made.  Check out these road trip with friends quotes!

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter.
– Izaak Walton

No road is long with good company.
– Turkish proverb

Even been in the midst of a conversation that you forget how much time has passed or how far you’ve travelled? I know I sure have! The time seems to fly by when you’ve got a great travel partner as a companion along the way.

If you want to go fast go alone. If you want to go far go together.
– African Proverb

When it comes to road trips, this is clutch in my opinion. Yes, you might be able to get somewhere faster if you’re on your own but having someone to keep you energized or to lend a helping hand will take you further than you could realize!

Sometimes all you need is a great friend and a tank of gas.
– Thelma and Louise

I honestly couldn’t agree more! Whether it be a day trip for a hike, a quick drive with no plan or an epic multi-day road trip, sometimes that’s all you need is the open road and good company.

Quotes For Friends Who Support You

As someone who has travelled a lot, I’ve loved and lost a lot of friends over the years. From the days of working away for co-op in university to my travels now with this blog, it tells you who your true friends are. They’re the ones that no matter how long you’re apart, it’s like you saw each other last week. We may not see each other as often as we like, but there’s a mutual understanding that we can reach out no matter what. These quotes are for those beautiful souls!

Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.
— Oprah Winfrey

Travel truly weeds out these kinds of people. By seeing the world you learn more about yourself as well as others. I’m thankful my travels have taught me how to pick out these kinds of people… and to ensure I’m not one of them either!

To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be the world.
– Brandi Snyder

Maybe it’s the fact that I’m an only child or maybe it’s just me, but my close friends are more than just a friend to me. I don’t have any siblings but my best friends feel like my siblings. They mean the world to me and I’ll do everything in my power to be there for them in good times and bad, celebrate their wins and help them when they’re in need.

In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.
— Albert Schweitzer

We are the captains of our own ships sailing the sea of life, but in times of a stormy weather, you will discover true friends when they don’t hesitate to be a lighthouse.
— Dodinsky

A friend knows the song in my heart and sings it to me when my memory fails.
– Donna Roberts

It is not so much our friends’ help that helps us, as the confidence of their help.
– Epicurus

These four quotes speak to those times of self-doubt that we all experience. Whether it be at home or on the road, our friends help remind us of who we are. They tell us that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed or lost but then remind us of our strengths.

A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.
– Walter Winchell

Good friends follow you anywhere.
– A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh

These quotes really hit home for me, especially together. Travel has been an important part of my life for over a decade but I’ve had many friends who don’t quite understand it. Throughout my university career, I took work placements that took me to the west coast of Canada, down south to Miami and even back home to Niagara. While I always returned to continue my studies, sometimes my “friends” did not. They’d “forget” about me or I’d get this excuse: “oh, well you’ve been gone for so long I guess I just got used to you not being here.” I quickly learned that friends like these are a dime a dozen, and I’m fortunate to say I’ve made friends who get it. Whether they’re fellow travellers or not, these people realize that while I may be gone from time to time, they know I’m here for them no matter where I am in the world and vice versa. I’m forever grateful to have these beautiful souls in my life.

When Hilarity Ensues While You Travel Together

These are quotes that remind of the sleep-deprived, caffeine fuelled shenanigans. An ode to the times when you can’t believe the situation you’re in, the nonsensical inside jokes you come up with and when you’re laughing so hard you can’t breathe, these awesome trip quotes will have you reminiscing of past adventures.

A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though he knows that you are slightly cracked.
– Bernard Meltzer

Tis the privilege of friendship to talk nonsense, and to have her nonsense respected.
– Charles Lamb

Anyone who has travelled with me knows that the longer the day, the more nonsensical I become. I think my pal Olivia experienced the epitome of this during our 12-hour drive back to Ontario from Portland, Maine. From ridiculous observations to incoherent babbling, I definitely did my fair share of talking nonsense. Luckily she was on board with it which is why this trip is one of my fondest memories with her!

If you’ve never been to Portland, I highly recommend it. I ate my weight in lobster, saw a number of gorgeous lighthouses, and indulged in plenty of craft beer and spirits. With even more amazing things to do there, be sure to check out my Portland post!

Lessons Learned When Travelling with Others

I’m sure I’m not the only person who has found themselves in a less than ideal travel situation. Having a crappy travel partner can really kybosh a trip. I found out the hard way, but I’ve lived and I’ve learned. I’m also a little more picky about who I travel with now. If this sounds familiar, I think the quotes about travel below will resonate with you. They remind me of how lucky I am to have a number of awesome travel pals in my life!

The more I traveled, the more I realized fear makes strangers of people who should be friends.
– Shirley MacLaine

The more I learn about cultures other than my own, the more I realize so much animosity comes from a lack of understanding. Don’t get me wrong, I catch myself doing it from time to time too. However, if we all took more time to reflect and analyze why we feel negative about something or gave other people more chances, we’d have more kindness in the world.

Some of the biggest challenges in relationships come from the fact that most people enter a relationship in order to get something: they’re trying to find someone who’s going to make them feel good. In reality, the only way a relationship will last is if you see your relationship as a place that you go to give, and not a place that you go to take.
— Anthony Robbins

I don’t think this needs any more explanation. Every relationship, whether it be romantic or friendship, is a two-way street. If you take and never give, it won’t last. Travel makes or breaks those relationships and, while it can be painful when it happens, can teach us so much about ourselves and how we relate to others.

There comes a time when you have to stop crossing oceans for people who wouldn’t jump puddles for you.
– J.L. Sheppard

Keep away from those who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you believe that you too can become great.
– Mark Twain

Sometimes you can give it all you’ve got and you just can’t give anymore to a relationship. It’s hard and it hurts, but remember that it’s okay to walk away. Take that time, effort and energy and put it into a friendship that not only deserves it but will appreciate everything you do to nurture it.

Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow. Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend.
– Albert Camus

Sometimes it’s the little things that can give you a hint to the true character of a person. The first sentence of this quote brings me to memories of travel companions where I was expected to follow along with all their plans, not taking into account my needs or desires. I’ve learned to hone my observation skills a little and whenever this begins to happen, I happily remind friends that we need to be equal in our desires to ensure a wonderful trip together. If I’m ever to do this, I know my friends will remind me to do the same!

I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.
– Mark Twain

If I’ve learned anything from travelling, this is definitely it. Having a terrible travel partner can really kill an adventure but at the same time, it’s so fulfilling to find those travel pals where you both just click! An additional silver lining? A shitty travel partner is the perfect reason for a solo adventure.

Quotes About Long Distance Friendship

When you’re on the road, you’re bound to make small talk. You’re going to chat with strangers and sometimes those strangers become your friends. Whether it was on a beer tour, at a conference or in a hostel common room, it was by chance that you met but travel brought you together. Then comes the unfortunate time when you have to part ways, but you still keep in touch. These quotes are for those friends you don’t see nearly often enough but still appreciate every day.

Those truly linked don’t need correspondence. When they meet again after many years apart, Their friendship is as true as ever.
— Deng Ming-Dao

There is magic in long-distance friendships. They let you relate to other human beings in a way that goes beyond being physically together and is often more profound.
– Diana Cortes

The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart.
– Elisabeth Foley

This honestly sums up so many of my friendships. Whether they’re across the country or across the world, it’s these people who truly make my life so complete. It’s the random messages sent and received of check-ins and reminders that we’re thinking of one another. We may have our separate lives but that doesn’t mean we don’t occupy a special place in each other’s hearts.

True friends never apart maybe in distance never in heart.
– Helen Keller

Nothing makes the earth seem so spacious as to have friends at a distance; they make the latitudes and longitudes.
– Henry David Thoreau

Mighty proud I am that I am able to have a spare bed for my friends.
— Samuel Pepys

One of the reasons I’ll never live in anything less than a two-bedroom abode. My spare room is always open to friends for whenever they need it. Whether you stay for a night, a week or even longer, my door is always open!

Quotes on Friends, Relationships & Travel

These quotes don’t quite fit into the above categories but I think they speak to how travel can make you a better friend. It can teach us so much about ourselves and one another. Travelling gives us the capacity to be more understanding of one another and therefore more kind to each other.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.
– Maya Angelou

It is not the destination where you end up but the mishaps and memories you create along the way!
– Penelope Riley

Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose.
– Tennessee Williams

One of the great things about travel is that you find out how many good, kind people there are.
– Edith Wharton

If you go looking for a friend, you’re going to find they’re very scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere.
– Zig Ziglar

Travel sparks our imagination, feeds our curiosity, and reminds us how much we all have in common.
– Deborah Lloyd

I especially enjoy the last quote in this section. Travel really does show us just how much we have in common with one another. Sometimes it may take a little bit to realize but once we do, we never forget it!
