With December upon us, many are ramping up the holiday cheer as Christmas quickly approaches. Whether you are looking for the perfect tree for your festive gatherings this year or just looking for the perfect yuletide adventure, a trip to a Christmas tree farm is never a bad idea! Luckily there are plenty of great Christmas tree farms near Toronto that will certainly put you in the holiday spirit.

Elliott Tree Farm near Erin

One of the best Christmas tree farms near Toronto has to be the Elliott Tree Farm. Located just over an hour from the city in the town of Hillsburgh, Elliott Tree Farm is a family-run business that has been operating circa 1890!
Here you’ll find a variety of trees including fresh cut Balsam and Fraser fir trees as well as a number of other species you can cut yourself including Blue Spruce, White Spruce, Norway Spruce and Cannan Fir. No matter which you choose, you can do so with sustainability in mind as the Elliott Tree Farm plants two new trees for every tree they harvest! Click here for a full list as well as prices.
If you’re unable to have a real tree for whatever reason (like having cats that enjoy toppling them over a little too much), head to their Heritage Barn. Here you’ll find natural decor options such as wreaths that can stay out of your furry family member’s reach. There are also a variety of items from local artisans so you may just find some unique gifts for friends and family.
It’s easy to make a day of it at Elliott Tree Farm, especially as they’ll conquer hunger when it strikes with the great eats you’ll find at the Horse Barn Canteen. Sink your teeth into beef smash burgers, peameal bacon sandwiches, poutine and more. Not to mention their freshly baked gingerbread and Christmas cookies, though you won’t want to miss out on their maple goodies made with their very own maple syrup!

For even more festive fun, pop by Elliott Tree Farm’s neighbours over at Erin Hills Acres! Formerly known as the Wintersinger Christmas Tree Farm, Erin Hill Acres is run by a multi-generational team with farming roots running 7 generations deep!
While you can pop into their country store and grab a fir from their fresh cut trees, the true experience lies past these walls. For an admission fee of $10 for ages 10 and up, and $5 for children ages 5-9 (4 and under are complimentary), you can enjoy the the full Christmas in the Country Experience!
Over 90 acres of festive fun is at your fingertips. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along their stunning walking trails as you pass by numerous photo ops that will make the perfect Christmas card photo. The kids will have a ball in the play area and hanging out with the local farm animals. Hop on the wagon for rides around the rolling hills and gorgeous forests. Make sure you stop by the Grizwald Christmas Vacation Woody Wagon too! If the chill starts to set in, cozy up by one of their fire pits or stop in at the Courtyard Cafe for a tasty wood fired pizza, tasty treats, warm beverages and more.
Of course, the highlight is the wide variety of trees Erin Hill Acres has for those who visit. Whether you’re looking for an adorable 3 foot tree (complete with its own stand!) or towering behemoths of 35 feet, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect tree for your yuletide celebrations. Not to mention you’ll get to watch your chosen tree dance in their custom made tree shaker! While it’s mainly to help clean the tree of dead needles and debris, this is certainly a sight you won’t want to miss!
For even more yuletide cheer, you can book a private session with jolly old Saint Nick with Erin Hill Acres’ Santa Experience! Enjoy the beautifully decorated 1800s barn as Santa himself hangs out with you in his living room. Make it a family affair as up to 10 people can participate. No added fees for photographers or anything like that as you can be snap-happy capturing all of the special moments with your own phone or camera during this quality time with Santa and your family! Hockley Valley Tree Farm in Mono

Nestled in the gorgeous countryside of the Headwaters Region, you’ll find the Hockley Valley Tree Farm. This is another one of the great free Christmas tree farms to visit near Toronto!
You’ll be immediately greeted by their brilliantly restored bank barn, its bright red exterior a beacon for festive fun. Step inside to admire the handiwork of over 30 local artisans. You’ll find a variety of gift ideas from sweet treats to kitschy clothing with plenty of other unique gift ideas in between. At the back, enjoy a nice warm cup of complimentary hot chocolate as you peruse the displays.
Outside, you’ll find numerous racks of pre-cut Christmas trees from 6 to 14 feet in height. Hockley Valley Tree Farm has a variety of white and blue spruce trees, Scott’s pine and Fraser fir trees. If you visit early in the season, you can take a stroll amongst the fields to cut your own and soak up the beautiful views as you go.
Round out your visit with a beautiful horse-drawn wagon ride through a small section of their stunning forest. If you’re lucky and some fresh snow has fallen, it looks absolutely magical! Ike, Duke and King are all gentle giants who love a good nose rub or chin scratch for a job well done!
Hockley Valley Tree Farm is open Fridays from 12:00 pm to 4:30 pm as well as Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm from mid-November until December 23rd.
INSIDER TIP: Visiting the Hockley Valley Farm is the perfect way to spend an afternoon but there’s no better way to round out your visit than dinner at Adamo Estate Winery. Enjoy a variety of shareable eats and amazing wine to go along with each dish in their stunning dining room overlooking the vineyards. Not to mention it’s just a two minute drive away!
Laura’s Christmas Trees in Mulmur

For almost 40 years, Laura’s Christmas Trees has been offering a variety of coniferous trees to add a little extra magic to your holiday season. With mainly spruce and pine trees available, stop by and cut your own or take a peek at what pre-cut varieties they have to offer. You can find the full list online here. Laura’s Trees are all organic in that no pesticides are used to ensure a safe environment for the whole family and for years to come.
While they’re mainly in the tree business, you have to stop by the little shop on-site for Laura’s Out of the Woods Creations. Here you’ll find a number of handcrafted decor items made by Laura herself including numerous woodworking items, painted figures, rustic centrepieces and more. Once again if you’re like me and can’t bring a tree into your home, you’ll also find various greenery and wreaths to still bring a little of the outdoors into your home!
SOMETHING TO NOTE: Laura’s Christmas Trees is closed for the 2023 season as their smaller operation means more time is needed for their beautiful trees to grow! While they won’t have trees until 2024, their market is still open so pop by for a visit.
Christmas may be the name of the game, however many of the pieces you’ll find from Laura’s Out of the Woods Creations are not just for the festive season. You’ll spy local birds like cardinals and chickadees as well as honey bees and other critters. There’s certainly quite the menagerie here!
Round out your visit to Laura’s Christmas Trees with a stroll along their 2 kilometres of trails that you can enjoy at your leisure. On weekends in December, stop by for a complimentary candy cane and hot chocolate as well as treats for the pups. That’s right, dogs are welcome as long as they’re on a leash!
Laura’s Christmas Trees is open from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm daily from November 18th until December 23rd. Also, don’t forget to come cash in hand as Laura’s is a cash-only operation.

Spademen Tree Farm in Port Perry – For over 35 years, the Spademen family cared for and grown trees beginning with Scotch pine in the late 1960s. Since then, their farm has expanded to include white spruce, blue spruce, white pine, Balsam fir and Fraser fir. Enjoy the gorgeous fields of trees, warm up by their outdoor bonfires and soak in the holiday vibes.
